Before And After!

Amazing how much good a little paint will do for almost any surface. The small room we just finished used to house this white, high-boy dresser (below to the right) a not-so-good before photo. Sis painted it black, added new hardware and we moved it to another room where it now lives very high-brow with a new sleek look. If you ask me, moving the dresser here helped in several ways. Before, it lived in a room with a low ceiling and sat on white linoleum. Now it lives in a room with more than 12 feet of ceiling and sits on a hardwood floor. It no longer dominates the room and has a more sophisticated appeal.

A Rainy 4th In Georgia!

You would have never guessed it was July 4th around here yesterday. We heard a few pops in the night way off in the distance but that was it. All was quiet on the home-front at Spit and Glue.

It rained all day today, I love the rain but it messed up my painting schedule. I had carved out Sunday to Friday to get the next project done because by the following Monday I hope to be working at a new job. Not confirmed yet, I'm being optimistic. Putting it out into the universe with the expectation of it actually happening. As much as I love learning new computer things for hours on-end..... .. it doesn't buy Mama a new pair of shoes. I've been seeking employment for a while with no success. Somethings gotta give soon.

So I'd have to say the highlight of my day today was being visited by 3 deer. Probably the same group that was here several weeks ago. Unfortunately I couldn't contain myself enough to divert the dogs, grab the camera and get a photo of them. Oh and of course the lovely gift Roman brought to me this afternoon as above photo depicts. How was your 4th of July?

Spit and Glue and Wet, White Paint!

Could we have picked a better day to paint the front porch of Moms cottage? In a word, HELL YES. After all, Sis is still out of commission, there's only one of me, temps are in the 90's and so is the humidity! But we decided to go ahead in spite of it. Injured Sis would sit and supervise, and I would paint until the heat drove us indoors.

We started around 10:00 AM. It was slow going and sweltering as the sun moved too quickly in our direction. It wasn't long before I was standing directly in it, my face was wetter than the paint, and redder than red! I was ready to call it quits, but behold, along came our friend Edward who showed up to have a look at the flat on the lawn mower. Instead he picked up a paint brush and the two of us had it done within a couple of hours. The photos don't do it justice and we still have to paint the floor, but we're getting there. Only 4 decks left to be painted.

Steps Alone!

You could stay busy for eight straight weekends just doing little sets of steps like this around here. All we need is time, paint, elbow-grease and forgiving weather. Now that it's sweltering here in Georgia, I may try getting up in the middle of the night to paint when the temps are cooler. I tried to put photos of all 8 sets of steps up here, but it was not pretty, this one easily represents the other 7. You get the idea. Onward and upward people!

Four Decks Down, Two To Go

So I managed to get my back deck finished yesterday. Sis's still out of commission, so Roman helped while Dusty snuck off to dig for......I'm not sure what, maybe frogs. She came back looking like she'd been digging to China. Roman never met a hose she didn't want to tangle with so I let it slow-drip onto the lawn to keep her out of the way while I treated, then power-cleaned every rung of the white picket fence and decking. We use an environmentally friendly solution and spray the siding, fencing and deck, let it sit a while and then power-wash.

A big, dirty job but somebody had to do it, and when finished you can really see how much it was needed. Now the decks on Mom's Cottage are ready to be painted, leaving just two more on the main house remaining for the same treatment. Can I get a woot woot!!- Naturally, I'll keep you posted.

Two Decks Down, Four to Go!

Georgia people love their decks/porches. Almost every home has one, and almost without exception you'll see a couple of rocking chairs or a porch swing drifting in the wind when you drive by. You know the scene, Ms. Scarlett O'hara sittin on one of um, swattin flys and drinkin mint julips...... Spit and Glue is no exception. Matter of fact, we have SIX decks.

The down side? Someone (us) has to keep them clean. Most of the time it's a matter of a broom and a hose. But a couple of times a year, they have to be power washed. This is a huge job, so we take them on one deck per weekend for 6 weeks straight!

To date, we're 2 decks down, with 4 to go.
